Pingyao

In early April I also took a road trip to Pingyao, which is about 700 km from Beijing. Wikipedia will tell you that Pingyao was on the financial center of China (back during the Qing Dynasty), where it contained over half of the country’s financial institutions (banks). Now, it’s a fairly well preserved tourist trap. I stayed in a little hotel within the “ancient” area of town. It was definitely an interesting adventure.
