Reserve de Bandia

Still while enjoying my African vacation, Carla and I took a short day trip to Bandia wildlife reserve. Bandia is only about 65km from Dakar, but it took us about 3 hours to get there; not because the roads were bad, but because we were lost. I guess it is important to note: Carla received her Land Rover just the day before. The deal was - if she could get us out of Dakar; I could read a highway map and signs… Little did I know if you just drive in one direction long enough you would get out of Dakar. Anyway, it was a good thing I have excellent map skills.

Bandia is an interesting place. They have imported giraffes, rhinos, and other exotic animals from various parts of Africa and let them have free roam of the park. I guess it could be compared to Disney’s Wild Kingdom… We drove through park which gave us the opportunity to see lots of animals; perfect for a “photo safari.” I think she just saved me thousands of dollars – no need to go on a "real safari."

While at the park, we hired a local guide. The guide knew where all animal’s good hiding spots were (well worth the money).

Probably the best part of the park was the restaurant and bar. The food was delicious!
