Day 168: It was a Tuesday...

Once again it has been a busy couple of weeks. Last Friday, I had a small office function at one of my favorite watering holes “The Rickshaw.” I loathe that place, they have one of the most hideous drink specials in Beijing; ½ off all drinks. This is a place where you will have to crawl out of after spending $15. Knowing this, I only spent $10, but those pitchers of “357 Magnums” kept calling my name. I’m not sure what they put in them, but they sure are tasty.

Saturday, the office had a going away/poker party for one of our staff members who retired and is returning to the good old U.S. of A. We started out at the “Latin Restaurant,” pretty much like a Brazilian BBQ, or as I call it “Death by Meat.” After we ate all the meat and drank all the beer we could muster we went to an “undisclosed location” to play Texas Hold’em. I took 3rd place which allowed me to go home with $150 in cold hard Monopoly money.

Sunday evening, three friends and I caught a production of AIDA. According to piao.com (ticketmaster’ish), AIDA: “Winner of four 2000 Tony Awards, Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA is a musical bursting with contemporary energy chronicling the love triangle between Aida, a Nubian princess stolen from her country, Amneris, an Egyptian princess, and Radames, the soldier they both love. AIDA is an epic tale of love, loyalty and betrayal, with an exhilarating Tony and Grammy Award-winning score by Elton John and Tim Rice, their first collaboration since writing the music for the worldwide phenomenon The Lion King. The Star Ledger proclaims, “Elton John's high-energy theater score swoons with romance.”

It was a good production, sort of felt like “Romeo and Juliet” but with an Egyptian slant. They all die.

Work is still there... and the bills are still being paid. Why wont they just fire me?
