My dear niece had a couple of questions I wanted to address before my big “weekend post.”
She asked the following questions:
1. Does your toilet flush with a remote?
2. Are they still recovering from that earthquake?
3. Are you in China or Japan?
4. Do you have a Mama-San?
Rachel, you have some pretty technical questions. I guess I should start with the easy ones.
1. Does your toilet flush with a remote?
No, does yours?
Actually, I have two things in my bathroom which look like toilets, but you should only do your "business" in one of them. The other is for washing (not your face – the other end). However, I can turn on my TV with a remote; the apartment comes with two sweet flat screens.
Rachel please do some research and tell me what this "other" device is called.
2. Are they still recovering from that earthquake?
Yes. The International Red Cross has an excellent website which talks about the earthquake and efforts to help people in Sichuan (which is several hundred miles from Beijing). Try the link below for more information.

3. Do you live in China or Japan?
Beijing, China
4. Do you have a Mama-San?
No, not yet. Right now, my apartment has a maid service which I pay for. Once I find a good Ayi 阿姨(pronounced like the letters “I E”) , which translates to “auntie, mother's sister, or a woman of my parent's generation," I’ll stop paying for the maid service and have my Ayi clean, cook, and do my laundry. (Just like Mom would do). No mama-sans in China, just Ayis.
